Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father left her family, she was grew to maturity by her mother, godparents and grandmother. When she was a little girl, Catherine Ford struggled with an obsessional disorder, and also suffered from anxiety due to the word"association. Ford was first fascinated by acting as a teenager and joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of weeks, she realized this school wasn't right for her. Ford later applied to be a student at the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Her classmate was Shaun Dingwall, who would play a part as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993, but she made her television debut in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. In the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre has led to her joining The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. But Tate was soon gaining recognition for her stand-up comedic performances, which she added to her resume in the year 1996.
